Want an Amazing Vacation in 2024? Start Planning Now.
If 2023 taught us anything, it’s that travel is back in a big way. And it’s not slowing down. Planning ahead will save you time, money, and ensure you get the vacation of your dreams.
Here’s how:
Search Airfares Now: Google Flights is one of the best tools for finding reasonably priced airline tickets, but you need to start looking now. If you have flexible dates, add your home airport in the Where From field, leave the Where To field blank and click the Explore button at the top of the page. Make sure to customize cabin class and # of stops (no one wants an excessive layover). You can also search by specific dates. Google tells you if the price is low, average or high based on typical airfares, and allows you to track prices. I’ve already grabbed a cheap flight to Mexico City in February, found a round trip direct flight to Dublin this Spring for $446 and am watching business class fares to Singapore in May. Taking 5 minutes to check every morning will give you the best opportunity to find the flights you want before rates go up. PS. It’s also a fun way to start your day!
Update Your Passport: If you are planning to travel abroad this year, check your passport now. Many countries require passports to be valid for 3 months beyond the date of your trip and renewing them can take up to 8 weeks. Don’t let an expired passport be the reason you miss out on an incredible journey.
Navigate Europe: We all saw photos of popular destinations like France, Italy and Spain being overrun by tourists last year. If those are your desired destinations, booking early is key. To keep crowds at bay, consider visiting during shoulder season (September/October is ideal) or explore alternate countries.
Consider Outside Factors: Paris will be hosting the 2024 Summer Olympics from July 26th to August 11th, and Taylor Swift (it’s her….yes…she’s the problem it’s her…) will be bringing her Eras tour to Europe all summer. Both events will impact hotel availability and airfares. Do your research and plan accordingly.
Don’t Forget Experiences: What you do on vacation is just as important as where you go. Consider what experiences you want to have - a cooking class in Italy, a hot air balloon ride in Cappadocia, or a cultural festival in Japan are all desirable activities but must be booked in advance to avoid missing out. This is even more critical if you want to visit hotspots like the Vatican or The Louvre.
Stay Local: The US is a big place and most of us haven’t seen it all. Pick a state you’ve never been to and make it an adventure. If national parks are on your bucket list, make reservations early to ensure you get the dates and lodging you want.
Work with a Travel Advisor: What’s an article without a little self-promotion? I’ll bring expertise and personalized attention to your trip by navigating complex itineraries, offering hotels with perks, suggesting alternate destinations and offering insights that enhance your overall travel experience. Collaborating with me ensures a stress-free planning process, allowing you to focus on the excitement of your upcoming adventure.
Q1 is tough enough. Spark joy by planning your next trip now. Not only will it lift your spirits and give you something to look forward to, but it will save you time, aggravation and money.
